                                      William and Virginia Guzman

We are proud to be the Guzman Grizzlies, named in honor of the Guzman family, whose courage, leadership, and commitment to justice helped advance educational equity in California.

The Guzman family were key plaintiffs in the landmark Mendez v. Westminster case, which led to the desegregation of public schools in California. At a time when Mexican American children were denied equal educational opportunities, Virginia and William Guzman stood up not only for their own child, but for their community, helping to open doors for future generations of students.

Virginia Guzman dedicated her life to service and advocacy, remaining actively involved in her community well beyond the court case. Her commitment to helping others reflected the values of perseverance, compassion, and responsibility—values that continue to guide our school today.
